This week Allan and I have been talking a lot about launching your product. The point again is to launch. And then do it again. Today I wanted to give an example of Less launching early, very early.
Less Projects is a project task management software geared towards an agile methodology. We basically tried to write a tool that would handle projects the way we handle them. Really simple, clients involved at every stage, low pressure, easy to use, no big deals.
So we wrote it. And used it internally. And it sucked. But it sucked just enough to put it out there, so we did. We also did a short video for the home page explaining that this app is a “version zero” app. It is buggy and missing a lot of features, but try it out and let us know what you think. We also said we will be adding to it. We launched it and immediately starting getting feedback.
The first few features were added in haste and we actually started send WAY too many notification emails. We sorted it out and then added a few more things. It’s still version zero. We still have a long way to go. We’re not making any money on it yet, but it is out there. A few people are using it. A few people are liking it. We are suffering it while we try to find the time to make it better. But we launched.
And so should you.
If you wanted it to build a product you’d find a way to get time to work on it. If you really wanted to start that new hobby you’d sacrifice something to find the time and money to do it.
I'll define a "Wannabe Entrepreneur" as someone who has never made money from their businesses. Here are the different types of wannabes.
In the past few years I've built go-carts, built a 200+ sq ft workshop, written several eBooks. How do I create a life where I have time to work on side projects?
