Infographs are Ruining the Internet
written by Allan on February 01, 2011
Infographs are usually very pretty, but it's really a gimmick, they're not useful content, it's link bait to get traffic to a blog. But hey, we like traffic too, so here's a AWESOME, KILLER, AMAZING, MINDBLOWING infograph about infographs.
How it's done
Our illustrations were done by "derri_hasmi at yahoo.co.id", although proof reading the infograph before you publish is recommended. If you wanted real data just hire a virtual assistant to find the data you need for $3 an hour. This infograph took us 15 minutes of communication time and $150 to the illustrator.
Infographs are a great tool for lazy bloggers, giving little value to readers.

Your are right.. such infographs are worst example how to do it… The other sites use vivid, actual proportions, graphics to bring something directly.
I see your point, but I disagree. Read more:

Lol-worthy!!!
$150 to the illustrator? you guys are douches.
Yes, many infographics are gimmicks. However, most of what people call infographics aren’t really infographics. They’re stories told in picture form. Which is fine, but easily exploited as linkbait and not really making good use of the medium. A great infographic is something that displays data in a way that makes it easier to digest than through words. That or makes data look super pretty. Anyone can pay $150 to make a douchey graphic making fun of someone. Not anyone can make a good infographic.
You mentioned link bait being the technique behind these, but wanted to touch a bit more on the purpose. While it may drive some traffic, the main purpose is for SEO. When these were still relatively a new thing, many of these graphics would spread virally on site and social bookmarking hubs and would largely result in a lot of solid backlinks from popular sites.
@jess: The point wasn’t to spend alot of money it was to show how cheaply we could buy traffic.
